About Mike:
Mike Simonsen is one of the most influential housing market analysts in the country. He recently joined the nation’s largest real estate brokerage, Compass, as its first Chief Economist, after nearly two decades building unique data and insights that help people understand the US housing economy.
Mike founded Altos Research in 2006 and led the company as its CEO until the company’s 2022 acquisition by HWMedia (publishers of HousingWire and RealTrends). At Altos, Mike pioneered the development of real-time data that enabled tens of thousands of real estate professionals and many of the biggest financial firms in the world to make sense of the US housing market.
Through his widely followed Altos data products, video market updates, economic analyses and reports, Mike reached millions of people with the Altos data and led the company to become the most trusted source of independent, data-driven insights into the US housing economy. Mike is frequently tapped by top-tier media, legislators, business leaders, academics and others for guidance on housing economics and policy.
Mike’s entire career has been focused on creating products that tell a story with data. Prior to founding Altos, Mike spent 15 years in the venture-backed startup trenches of Silicon Valley and was recently president of the Entrepreneur's Organization (EO) San Francisco chapter. He has a BS from the University of Nevada and an MBA from Chicago’s DePaul University.
